Heathrow Express staff to strike
Friday, 24 February 2012
THE RMT union has called a total of six days of industrial action in protest over the sacking of a Heathrow Express driver, with the first walkout set to take place this Sunday and Monday.

The wave of strike action by rail workers on the Heathrow Express will disrupt passengers travel plans from this weekend. Two 24-hour walkouts will go ahead on Sunday, February 26, and again on March 11, from 12h15, as the dispute remains unresolved. Despite a series of meetings to reinstate sacked driver Zahid Majid, and union representative Liaqat Ali who has returned from suspension but faces disciplinary charges, industrial action will start this Sunday. Around 250 members of the Rail Maritime and Transport (RMT) union will also take action short of a strike by refusing to work any additional hours for 48 hours from 03h00 on Saturday March 3.

The RMT union confirmed industrial action after its members returned a majority 'yes' vote in two separate ballots, and an agreement between the two sides was not reached. Heathrow Express which runs trains between Paddington and the airport terminals has published a revised timetable for this weekend, with services departing every 30 minutes.
