Friday, 30 November 2007

Johannesburg. 29 November 2007. South African Airways (SAA) is the new official airline sponsor of South Africa’s national rugby team, the Springboks.

“We are delighted to have clinched the sponsorship of the world rugby champions and are looking forward to flying the green and gold,” says SAA CEO, Khaya Ngqula.

SAA has had a consistent relationship with SA Rugby for a number of years. This deal serves to highlight the airline’s commitment to elevating the game.

SAA’s sponsorship of the Springboks includes SA Rugby as a whole and begins in 2008 for a period of three years.

“We would like to thank SA Rugby for their confidence in our ability to add value to the Springboks and rugby in the country. As a premium airline and South Africa’s national carrier, recognised throughout the world for its excellence, we will strive to live up to these high expectations,” says Ngqula.

SAA’s involvement extends further than its support of the national team. The airline’s sponsorship will contribute towards the development of rugby at every level of the game, including rural development, schools, clubs, provincial and national teams.

“The need to nurture interest in the game and to develop new players has been identified within the rugby community as well as by the public. We as SAA want to build on the work already done in this area and contribute further towards securing SA rugby’s prosperous future,” says Ngqula.

SAA is committed to South Africa’s national sports and has streamlined its previously bloated sponsorship portfolio to include only five major properties.

This will ensure that unwavering focus is placed on each property and that SAA and the sport receive maximum benefit from the partnerships.

The sponsorship deal with SA Rugby will help generate revenue for SAA as we make games conveniently accessible to ardent fans.

Those who dedicate their free time towards supporting their teams will benefit from the partnership between SAA and SA Rugby through the implementation of our “Follow Your Team” concept whereby sports fans and teams receive preferential travel benefits that includes match ticket allocations.

SAA’s website www.flysaa.com features a sports portal where customers can view upcoming sport events, book flights, accommodation, car rental, transfers and purchase match tickets.

Team and supporter travel over the next three years will be seamless with the help of SAA’s extensive domestic, regional and international route network.

SAA belongs to the world’s largest global airline network, Star Alliance which includes some of the best international airlines in the world.

Together with the alliance, SAA offers world inter-connectivity for easy travel and the highest number of local and international flights.

Travel will also be in the utmost comfort as SAA’s aircraft fleet is one of the youngest in the world and featured an award winning premium product, including the World’s Best Business Class lie-flat seat.
