Springboks take flight with SAA

Johannesburg. 29 November 2007. South African Airways (SAA) is the new official airline sponsor of South Africa’s national rugby team, the Springboks.

“We are delighted to have clinched the sponsorship of the world rugby champions and are looking forward to flying the green and gold,” says SAA CEO, Khaya Ngqula.

SAA has had a consistent relationship with SA Rugby for a number of years. This deal serves to highlight the airline’s commitment to elevating the game.

SAA’s sponsorship of the Springboks includes SA Rugby as a whole and begins in 2008 for a period of three years.

SAA’s involvement extends further than its support of the national team. The airline’s sponsorship will contribute towards the development of rugby at every level of the game, including rural development, schools, clubs, provincial and national teams.

“The need to nurture interest in the game and to develop new players has been identified within the rugby community as well as by the public. We as SAA want to build on the work already done in this area and contribute further towards securing SA rugby’s prosperous future,” says Ngqula.

SAA is committed to South Africa’s national sports and has streamlined its previously bloated sponsorship portfolio to include only five major properties.

This will ensure that unwavering focus is placed on each property and that SAA and the sport receive maximum benefit from the partnerships.

The sponsorship deal with SA Rugby will help generate revenue for SAA as we make games conveniently accessible to ardent fans.
