BA, UK Border Agency clarify Schengen visas
Tuesday, 19 July 2011
In response to the article ‘BA warns SA passport holders on Schengen visas’ published on July 15, British Airways has sourced comment from the UK Border Agency regarding a C- or a D-type visa.

The response from the agency reads as follows:

A South African passport holder who has a valid common format Category D visa for entry to an EEA state or a valid common format residence permit issued by an EEA state can transit the UK without a visa, provided they have a confirmed onward booking and are transiting within 24 hours.  If they have a Category C Schengen visa, they need a UK transit visa.

TNW will run an article in the July 27 issue with more details on the visa requirements.

In a statement, the airline further stressed that it issued the initial release as an advisory given an increase in incidents of customers arriving with the wrong visas. In such cases, the airline cannot allow boarding and it can cause a huge hassle for travel agents.
