In the run-up to the World Cup, Europcar has introduced new services that aim to get soccer fans more efficiently and effectively on their way.

 These include posting multi-lingual staff at all major airport branches, having a sufficient supply of navigation devices and increasing its ‘manpower’ at its 24-hour operated call centre.
 
Europcar ceo, Dawn Nathan-Jones, says many foreigners won’t want to drive in South Africa on the ‘wrong’ side of the road. “To accommodate this we have a chauffeur-drive service on offer, which we expect will be kept very busy.”
 
In terms of vehicle availability, Nathan-Jones believes that the demand for rented vehicles may exceed the industry’s supply, especially for larger vehicles such as minibuses, which will be a requirement for visitors arriving in groups.
 
However, Nathan-Jones explains that increased demand for rental vehicles during the six-week event period is likely to be balanced out by a drop in local business travel due to the limited availability and increased cost of flights and hotel accommodation.
 
She further explains that Europcar still has capacity over the World Cup period but expects this to decrease as the kick-off date draws closer. However, she is quick to confirm that a percentage of its fleet will be reserved for frequent customers and partners.
 
“On the local, leisure front, even though the Government has rescheduled school holidays to coincide with the event, again premium rates and a lack of availability will probably deter travel over this period.”

Nathan-Jones further adds that Europcar will not be overpricing. “We intend to maintain the credibility of our global brand name in South Africa with normal price yielding that is practised during any major event.”

She continues to say that Europcar’s flagship branch at OR Tambo is currently being emulated at Cape Town and Durban International airports and they are due for completion on March 27 and May 1 respectively. All the airport kiosks have new convenient locations.
