Home Affairs played role in Virgin dropping flights
Thursday, 04 September 2014
Cape Town will be dropped from Virgin Atlantic’s services next SA winter.

Although it was not the determining factor, uncertainties around the new immigration regulations that Home Affairs will introduce on October 1 is one of the factors that was taken into consideration when Virgin Atlantic evaluated routes and made its decision, gm Simon Newton-Smith told eTNW last night.

The airline announced that it will operate its final flight from London to Cape Town on April 26, 2015 and from Cape Town to London on April 27, 2015.

Flights from Johannesburg will not be affected.

Virgin says that the intended changes will enable the airline to better utilise its fleet by flying routes that deliver maximum profit or strategic importance.
