Nairobi hit by bomb blasts
Friday, 16 May 2014
Two bomb blasts in Nairobi today have killed at least 10 people and injured 70.

Kenya's National Disaster Operation Center said on Twitter that one blast targeted a mini-van used for public transportation. The second blast went off in a market.

The blasts come at a time when countries around the world have already started issuing travel advisories against Kenya. The FCO urged tourists yesterday to leave Mombasa following high threats of terrorism. The advisory reads: “If you are currently in an area to which we now advise against all but essential travel you should consider whether you have an essential reason to remain. If not, you should leave the area.”

The U.S. embassy issued a travel alert earlier Friday to American citizens warning of a continued terrorist threat in Kenya.

Tour operators have also started cancelling their trips to Kenya. UK-based companies, Thomson and First Choice cancelled all flights up to the end of October.
