US carriers 'invade' LHR with Open Skies
Monday, 31 March 2008

This weekend marked the inauguration of phase 1 of the Open Skies pact between the EU and US.

US-based airlines, such as Continental, Delta, US Airways and Northwest Airlines launched a number of services on Sunday, March 30 in line with the agreement.

Industry pundits predict there will be increased competition across the Atlantic and that fares will decrease as a result.

Continental now offers a twice-daily non-stop service to Heathrow from Newark Liberty International Airport and Houston George Bush International Airport. The flights will use Terminal 4 at Heathrow.

Delta has launched two JFK-LHR and one ATL-LHR flight per day, while US Airways runs a PHL-LHR service and Northwest Airlines a MSP-LHR service daily. Northwest will also be launching LHR-DTW and LHR-SEA services in the coming months.
