JTC launches new tourism experiences in Joburg
Friday, 11 May 2012
In an effort to continue tourism product development in the city, the Johannesburg Tourism Company has launched three new tourism experiences – Joburg’s Nature Route, the Indian Route and The Adventure Route.

The Nature Route showcases sites of natural beauty and anthropological relevance in the city, and the Indian Route will provide a history of the Indian community, with a focus on Mahatma Gandhi, who lived in Johannesburg from 1903 to 1914. The Adventure Route includes some of the high octane spills and thrills on offer.

“While we work at entrenching Joburg’s position as Africa’s leading business tourism destination, the team at the Joburg Tourism Company balance this with an on-going focus on tourism product development, and the presentation and packaging of leisure offerings to the consumer market,” said JTC Acting CEO, Phelisa Mangcu.

Mangcu said urban tourism was coming into its own in Johannesburg, with the city seeing an increasing number of visitors keen to explore its diverse aspects. “This includes the rejuvenation of entire districts or precincts, along with the development of public street art, pedestrianised zones, heritage sites and lifestyle activities like the Neighbourgoods Market in Braamfontein and the Sunday market at Arts on Main.”
